So, Domestic violence awareness and prevention month is October.

What should you do.

At the top of this blog titled” Things YOU can do to PREVENT domestic violence” you can find all the different ideas to help prevent dv while at the same time gaining awareness to the craziness that surrounds it.

Here are some ideas to help prevent domestic violence. You help and everyone’s help is desperately needed!

1.5 million people are abused every year.  When you add all their friends and families who have to help them and deal with the emotional pain as well…you’re over 3,000,000 people. These numbers are NOT an exaggeration, and we know that they are only a fraction of what is the reality. We believe that the real number is probably closer to 3 million people abused every year; therefore, that means 6,000,000 are affected and involved with a domestic violent relationship every year!

We must end this, and here is how:

  1. Donate to a domestic violence center
  2. Volunteer at a domestic violence center.
  3. Speak at your children’s school about preventing domestic violence.
  4. Start a blog of your own speaking out to prevent domestic violence.
  5. Like DV prevention pages on Facebook.
  6. Post DV prevention messages on facebook.
  7. Be a positive role-model, exercise fairness, and reinforce positive behavior. Address inappropriate and disrespectful behavior immediately.
  8. Encourage and foster safe and respectful relationships in everyone.
  9. Do not laugh at or make jokes about violence against women or men. because they are not funny, EVER!
  10. Write letters/emails to companies that use sexism as ways to sell things.
  11. Write letters to congress/senate/etc. about how they should vote.
  12. Speak at your church/civic group/book club/etc.
  13. Become part of the solution!  Attend programs, take courses, watch films, and read articles and books about the prevention actions that are being taken.
  14. Educate yourself and others about how larger social forces affect the conflicts between individual men and women.
  15. Don’t fund sexism. Refuse to purchase any magazine, rent any video, subscribe to any Web site, or buy any music that portrays girls or women in a sexually degrading or abusive manner. Protest sexism in the media
